Has Mr. Akhtar even heard the song?
by frank michael on May 13 2009 9:02AM  (IST)

It's more than obvious that Mr. Akhtar is playing blind and simply doesn't even have the remotest clue of the song! the song is strong, powerful and truly reflective of the times.

Javed Akhtar's comment on Rann theme
by azuma on May 12 2009 9:38PM  (IST)

I didn't care much for Javed Akhtar to begin with, but this just takes away any credibility he had. He beleives RGV IS MAKING FUN OF THE ANTHEM? Does he know what it looks like when someone is making FUN out of something? He should, because his music often makes fun of the minds of the Indian youth! This is not making fun of the anthem, Rann's song is trying to make an artistic impact in its listeners by mixing the irony of a patriotic song with unpatriotic, more realistic, and unfortunately true words. It's a new song, not the Indian anthem! If people are so uptight that they can't understand the difference then they don't deserve to watch intelligent films or listen to such music. Go, stick with your time pass masala drivel! RGV has had too much criticism for a country he loves so much. This time it really isn't warranted. Cut him some slack, he is one of the VERY FEW hindi directors that takes risks, tries hard, innovates, and directs for the sake of art and not just money. Remember, India is the same country that suppressed the greatness of Satyajit Ray just because he showed a too realistic image of India that the politicians didn't want to show. Satyajit Ray was the Akira Kurosawa of India and he has been virtually IGNORED because of the masala antics, hypocrisy, and greed of BOLLYWOOD. Down with bollywood and up with Indian Cinema, a cinema that is far more credible, artistic, and free!

If the majority of India doesn't support RGV on this, they're closed minded!

Creative Freedom or Disregard for nation?
by Rahul on May 13 2009 3:41AM  (IST)

@ Rohan: Dude, it is still ok that someone was sleeping in his house during 26 /11... am sure even you, the bravest of the brave, didn't go to fight the battle with the terrorists... but hey.. ur Mr RGV did go there! To see what that 'Action Drama' was all about... how he can exploit it commercially and use it in his film (SIC).

@ Azuma: Firstly Azuma, we are no one to judge whether rgv loves India or not... but for sure he cannot disrespect the country in the name of creativity. Jana Gana Mana is not a "patriotic song" its the national anthem... just like you can't burn our flag in the film to show creativity.. you cant disgrace the national anthem by modifying it to suit a film. It's just like I can't throw swear words at you here in the name of freedon of expression. Your Freedom ends, where others' nose begin.

by Ramesh on May 21 2009 3:00PM  (IST)

RGV is a joker of the director's pack... He tries to do all that a clown does and in the end just tries to garner some publicity for his biggest duds like RGV ki Aag!! The guys is so desperate for a hit that he's willling to do anything. And Javed Akhtar is a great guy who's very level headed...
