Anshuman  Jha



At 17, Anshuman Jha was the youngest ever to pass out of Barry John’s acting academy ‘Imago”. Four years hence, he has acted in plays such as “Its All About Money Honey”, “Chotu”, “Kindertransport”, “Fire & The Rain”, “Bang Bang You’Re Dead”, “Mr. Kolpert”, “Jhagrapur”, and various others. He has worked with directors such as Barry John, Quasar Padamsee, Joy Fernandes, Atul Kumar, Jaimini Pathak, etc. He has also directed First Ray Theatre Group’s three play productions “The Judgement”, “Bang Bang You’Re Dead” and “Mr. Kolpert” – a play that fetched him various awards including the BEST DIRECTOR at Thespo, 06’. He has also assisted on ad-films such as Himalaya, TVS Fiero, Real, Lux Undergarments, Kotak & also on a feature film “Tere Naam”. He has been conducting theatre workshops for the past three years and is presently on the Times Of India panel of workshop conductors.

In 2005, Ashuman also directed his first independent film “Life On Four Wheels” – a documentary-drama on the lives of taxi drivers in Mumbai. The film is competing at the National Documentary Festival, Tiburon Film Festival (U.S.A), Santa Clarita Film Festival, Boston Awards Film Festival, & Northampton Film Festival.

After graduating from St. Xavier’s College, Mumbai, in April 2006, Anshuman has been busy assisting ad-film directors-the likes of Ram Madhvani, Milind Dhaimade and Sanjay Shetty. He then was Subhash Ghai’s principal pillar behind his film ‘Black & White’ & has just wrapped up another film for Mukta Arts titled ‘Paying Guests’.
He is founder of First Ray Theatre Group, one of the youngest theatre groups in Mumbai.
