THE BIRTHDAY SUITE is the latest theatrical offering by Ashvin Gidwani, who has earlier produced such wholesome entertainers as A FUNNY THING CALLED LOVE and the more recent MISAL PAV, which is still running to full houses all over India.

THE BIRTHDAY SUITE is a laugh-a-minute situational comedy, originally written by Robin Hawdon and adapted by actor/director Gautam Joglekar, under the direction of theatre veteran Vijay Kenkere. Shomendra Bose (Tushar Dalvi) is a successful banker. Durga Singh (Dimple Inamdar) works in a boutique. Shom is in a failing marriage and Durga is failing to get married.

In ordinary circumstances their paths are highly unlikely to ever cross. But when a reluctant Shom is persuaded by his friend to spend a night of passion with a certain Miss Chameli, and Durga too lands up in the same hotel to meet a prospective groom Dr. Iyer, the scene is set for a delightful comedy of errors.

Shom mistakes Durga for Chameli, and Durga, thinking Shom is Dr. Iyer, is horrified at his insinuations! By the time Shom figures out his error, he is so completely captivated by Durga’s simplicity that he enlists the help of the hotel’s smooth-talking waiter Bankim (Vihang Nayak) to exchange rooms with Durga’s blind date Dr. Iyer, so that he not only escapes the clutches of Chameli, but also get to have dinner with Durga!

When Dr. Iyer (Ashiesh Roy) finally arrives and is ushered by Bunkim into Shom’s room, he is taken aback to see an intimate bedroom atmosphere instead of a formal dinner setting that he had arranged! On top of that Bunkim informs him that his date Durga wouldn’t be coming after all, but is sending her friend Chameli instead! And, out of the blue, Shom’s ultra-glamorous wife Suman (Sweta Keshwani) turns up, and both Bankim and Iyer mistake her for Chameli!

Meanwhile, in the adjoining room, Shom is having a tough time playing Iyer, and instead of making a favorable impression on Durga, ends up annoying her more and more! And to make matters worse, he discovers that the lady having a good time with Dr. Iyer in the next room is not Chameli but his wife Suman!

From here on begins a roller-coaster ride of crazy situations – that become so convoluted and confusing, that it seems impossible that Shom would ever be able to get out of his own web of deceit…But, he manages to hold on to his nerves as also his sanity, and emerge victorious in the end – with a deliciously served out twist in the tale!

THE BIRTHDAY SUITE boasts of a fine ensemble cast of popular television, film and theatre actors, whose energetic performance and comic timing promise to enthrall and regale the audience all through the 90 minutes of playing time. And long thereafter…

Especially worth watching is the excellent rapport and superb chemistry between the two leading men Tushar Dalvi and Ashiesh Roy as the hyperventilating banker and the nutty psychiatrist respectively..
