THE MOUSETRAP is the queen of crime, Agatha Christie's most successful play. Since its premiere at the Ambassador's Theatre in London in 1952, it has never stopped running in London. It is the longest continuously running play of all time, and has become a tourist must-see when visiting London. It was originally written as a radio play, commissioned by the BBC to celebrate the 80th birthday of Queen Mary, who was a fan of Christie's. Christie accepted the honour and wrote a 20-minute radio play called "Three Blind Mice". After that, Christie turned the play into a short story, while at the same time working on a stage version of the same plot. Christie had great hopes for the stage play, and she even suppressed the publication of the short story in UK for fear of revealing the ending of the story.

This Indian production is produced by Theatrecian, regarded as Calcutta's most prolific theatre company, having performed staged 50 plays in 9 years since its inception. The company is now emerging in Mumbai as a young theatre company with a vision. Theatrecian performed for the first time in Mumbai in early 2006 when it staged Edward Albee's THE ZOO STORY during the Yatri festival at Prithvi Theatre. The company has also staged Harold Pinter's THE DUMB WAITER and THE ROOM.

In Theatrecian's version of the MOUSETRAP, the director Laura Mishra has viewed the play from two different versions in terms of the 1950's era and the hippie culture during the 1970's era. This is represented on stage through music and costumes, the light design, the set, the properties used by the actors, the hairstyle and the likes.

The production boasts of a cast ranging from rank amateurs to television actors and professionals models. Veteran actor Joy Sengupta has given the voice-over.
