The workhsop is inspired by the work of Grotowski, but is also rooted in eastern/ Indian forms of movement, meditation techniques and on the navarasaas. Aspects of this work will include integrated work on voice, movement, embodiment and being, looking for organic impulses or sources of performance energy in textures of movement and more.

It is open to dancers, movers, actors; but also to musicians, painters, teachers of theatre/dance/ language, those who work with communities . Some experience with theatre and/or movement is preferred, but not essential

The workshop will start with a grounding of the Self in the breath, following Buddhist approaches to present moment awareness, breath focus and mindfulness. We will also work on centreing and grounding ourselves through exercises of the eye, hand gestures, etc., which will stand on the foundation of breath.

We will then go on to an exploration of our bodies moving in space. The movement patterns will be drawn primarily from Kalari, but also from Michael Chekov and from organic patterns of movement unique to each of our bodies. We will also explore partner work and building dialogues and phrases through movement. The objective is not to learn a specific way of moving, but to connect with our own inner organic impulse and be truly spontaneous and present in the moment, to discover the true Self by existing with others in a shared space.

Through movement, we will enter the voice. Our voicework will be based on the body's own inner rhythms and musicality, which we will try to approach through folk songs from different parts of the world, through Upanishadic chants, and through organic sounds. We will integrate breath, voice and movement.

We will then move on to the heart of the workshop - the work on the nine classical rasaas. We will integrate all the work done in the workshop into an exploration of this universal framework of life that goes much beyond acting and becomes a performance of Being. We will search the rasaas in the breath, and from the breath we will find a language of eye movements, gesture, posture, movement and touch.

Finally, we will work with text which will be from the Four Quartets, and also from the participants' own life experiences. We will work individually,in pairs, and as the whole group which will function as a single organism. Through improvizations based on the work done during the sessions, we will together devise work that we will share with friends
