Not only the style of movies being made these days, but even the songs have undergone a drastic change in Bollywood over the years, especially the lyrics. From mushy romantic lyrics to penning meaningful lines to hook lines, Bollywood songs have every time in every era introduced us with different trendy words.
These days, we have the word ‘Swag’ on top of the minds of our filmmakers & composers owing to its demand and youth choice. No matter if the song eventually makes a sense or not, our composers have adopted & adapted ‘Swag’ in a way that they somehow incorporate in the songs and serve a delectable song for the music patrons, especially for the select youngistanis, who prefer trendy music & hip hop song.
But even the composers can’t help as these songs are order of the day, they topping the charts. So who wouldn’t want bank on it.
Let’s take a look at five of such songs which deliberately used the freshly coined word ‘Swag’ to appease & appeal to ‘Swag wale audience’!
‘Swagpur Ka Choudhary’
This is the latest on the list from the film KAALAKAANDI starring Saif Ali Khan, Akshay Oberoi, Isha Talwar, Kunaal Roy Kapur, Deepak Dobriyal, Shenaz Treasurywala, Neil Bhoopalam, Amyra Dastur, Sobhita Dhulipala. The lyrics are written by Akshay Varma and also sung by him, while the music is given by Sameer Uddin. The lyrics may not be appealing enough yet the ‘Swagpur’ has been used with full swag! In fact Saif Ali Khan at the KAALAKAANDI event himself revealed that initially he didn’t get the idea and meaning of the song.
‘Swag Se Karenge Sabka Swagat’
The Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif starrer TIGER ZINDA HAI has wowed the audience and even its songs has made way to audiences hearts. The ‘Swag Se Karenge Sabka Swagat’ may not be apt but the song being peppy and boasting of the word swag did wonders at music charts. The song was composed by Vishal-Shekhar and crooned by Vishal himself with Neha Bhasin.
‘Swagger Wale Raja’
Varun Dhawan not only starred in the JUDWAA remake JUDWAA 2, stepping in the shoes of Salman Khan, but he even grooved on the reprised versions of JUDWAA’s hit songs like ‘Oonchi Hai Building’, ‘Tan Tana Tan Tara’. While ‘Tan Tana Tan Tara’ was retained like the original, the composers tweaked the lyrics of ‘Oonchi Hai Building’ to cater to today’s youth by just adding the word ‘swagger’ to the song.
‘Banno Tear Swagger Lage Sexy’
Bollywood movies have offered several wedding songs some very traditional in its appeal, while others a bit playful or teasing ones. But here came a folksy marriage song with a contemporary twist as the makers & composers went ahead and came up with a catch line 'Banno tera swagger lage sexy...'. The song became a rage because of the word ‘swagger’ and those who were confused with the word and made several interpretations ‘sweater’, ‘scooter’, ‘swayamvar’, etc were introduced to a new word ‘Swagger’. Perhaps after this song, a trend for using the word ‘swag’ with swag became a new fad in B-town!
‘Mujme Mai Hai Swag’
This song was something unique as we saw Nawaz also showing his swag and shaking legs with dance icon Tiger Shroff. Tiger is seen teaching Nawaz some hip hopping and moonwalking in the song ‘Swag’!
