The entertainment industry especially the filmmakers more often than not crib about their film's dismal performance and then try to find multiple reasons to justify their misdeeds. Why do we always need to remind filmmakers that it is a medium of story tellers? And time and again it is proved that films that are well narrated are mostly accepted by the audience in terms of popularity and collections both. It is also the songs (read item songs) playing an important role in a film's popularity. Until the very recent past, we had seen films with ‘item numbers' thrown in with a copycat attitude. Most of the films would have at least one number sung by Mika Singh and yes these were lapped up as party numbers. Suddenly someone thought of finding an alternative (doing something different) and brought in Yo Yo Honey Singh instead and voila… everyone started following suit. His numbers too became chart busters.
Now it seems there is a void in that space… neither Mika Singh nor Honey Singh so what next. Well, it was fine until ‘creating' an item number. And remember all these item numbers were recalled like brand names. Check these... ‘Baabujee', ‘Chikni Chameli', ‘Munni Badnaam Hui', ‘lungi dance', ‘Ata Majhi Satakli', etc. but it seems now filmmakers do not want to think new or ‘create' new. They are hell bent on ‘re-creating'. Not that it's a bad idea to cash-in on the success of an already successful number, but then what are these so-to-say filmmakers actually recreating? Most of the re-created songs are poppycock. Check out a few of these recreated songs ‘Saara Zamana', ‘Pal Pal Dil Ke Paas', ‘Maahi Ve', ‘Humma Humma' and judge for yourself. People who have loved the original might fall sick. It seems, there is a reasonable dose of sexuality and vulgarity pumped into these to visually attract the youngsters, but have doubts even if that purpose is being served.
So why don't these story tellers say something more tasteful and interesting even in their songs which too are more often than not thrown in between interesting plots. Is it bowing down to demands or not investing enough in creating something new.
