Playwright Shakespeare coined the famous phrase ‘What’s in a name?’ but little did he know that everything is in a name. Well at least in Bollywood it is.
Every now and then our films gets embroiled in controversy majorly because of their sensitive content and the brunt of such controversies are bared by their titles most of the time.
The recent film joining the bandwagon of films that had to change their titles is none other than Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s PADMAVATI starring Deepika Padukone, Shahid Kapoor and Ranveer Singh.
CBFC has suggested the makers of PADMAVATI to drop the letter ‘I’ from their title as the film is based on Padmavat poem and not history.
Here we bring you list of 7 such recent films that had their titles changed prior to its release
1)From PADMAVATI to PADMAVAT
Sanjay Leela Bhansali will now think twice before taking up any historical films. The filmmaker has been suggested by CBFC to drop ‘I’ and make their title PADMAVAT in order to avoid any confusion regarding the film being a work of fiction and not based on history. However the makers of the film are yet to make any official announcement about whether they will be abiding by CBFC’s suggestion or not.

2)From SEXY DURGA to S DURGA
CBFC objected to the title of Sanal Kumar Sasidharan’s independent film. CFBC agreed to give U/A certificate to the film only if ‘Sexy’ was dropped from the title. The makers of the film eventually changed their film’s title to S DURGA. Due to the problem concerning to its title the film wasn’t screened at IFFI last year.

3)From RUNNINGSHAADI.COM to RUNNING SHAADI
Amit Roy’s film RUNNINGSHAADI.COM title was changed to RUNNING SHAADI after a matrimony website sued them for using their name in its title. The film starred Amit Sadh and Taapsee Pannu in lead roles.
4) From RAMLEELA to GOLIYON KI RASLEELA..RAM-LEELA
Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s love for historical and mythological characters has always landed him in trouble. His 2013 film RAM LEELA starring Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone too met with protest as some religious groups claimed that the title of their film cannot be RAM LEELA since it has got nothing to do with Ramayana. Eventually after the court’s order GOLIYON KI RASLEELA was added to the title.
