Set in a village, Lavangi Mirchi Kolhapurchi is a
family drama about a married man Sarjerao Patil
who falls in love with a dancer whom he meets at
a 'Tamasha'. As the rumors spread about his
proposed marriage to Sundara the dancer, his
father-in-law approaches him to find out the truth
about the matter. Soon it turns out, that Sundara
is none other than the daughter of his second wife.
Brought down by shame and disgrace, he requests
Sarjerao to marry Sundara.
What follows is a miserable fight between the two
wives. A man deprived of peace and happiness,
Sarjerao opts to spend the remaining of his life
in an Ashram. Slowly the two ladies realize the
folly and agree to be on good terms with each
other. They request his friends to find him and
bring him back to them. On hearing this Sarjerao
decides to return home.
However the two take up a fight again and Sarjerao
threatens to go back to Julie another female who
fell in love with him at the Ashram. Accepting his
conditions, the two wives promise not to create
any more chaos. At this moment a Swamy enters and
Julie returns to the Ashram.
The play ends with Lord Krishna's sermon on the
selfishness of man and his unwillingness to
sacrifice. The moral of the story however is that
a person should be happy and satisfied with one
wife who can make a house heaven or else he will
have to live a life in hell.
