Advent and success of PARZANIA apart from establishing a new cinematic norm and coming of age of the Indian cinema has also turned out as a blessing in the bargain for the female actor of Hindi films as it has given a new actor Sarika who has come at a right time to fill the gap which had been left by Shabana and Rekha. It is the age that Sarika is in, that is interesting for the Indian Film industry, as it was the same age during which Shabana and Rekha were doing quite meaningful films, and were giving a new idiom to the cinema of the country.
Sarika follows in the same legacy and has the same credentials that have made what Shabana and Rekha are today, the actors who enamor the serious aficionados of cinema, it is altogether a different manner that Shabana and Rekha also do some films in between that may shock the serious fans. Sarika when she had left the films at the height of her career was a regular fixture in all of the Basu Bhattacharjee films like GRIH PRAVESH, and also did in between a film like VIDHATA to test the waters for commercial sustenance as well. Besides, the films that Sarika did with Sachin of the Rajshri films variety which were considered a neat and clean family entertainers like GEET GATA CHAL, etc.
Having been away from the arc lights for more than 15 years, Sarika has utilized her time well along with Kamal Hassan and had taken a particular interest in the different craft of cinema like film making story writing etc., as she had been supporting Kamal Hassan in his various creative efforts for quite a long time. And when she has come back the result is there for all to see, the most natural performance that one could hope to see in the character that Sarika has portrayed in PARZANIA. It seems as if the pain and the pathos that she has undergone through her life have got its outlet in the form of the character that she portrayed in PARZANIA.
One more fact that needs to be underlined is that Sarika has been an actor who has been facing the arc light since her childhood and having been soaked in the professional nuances of the South Indian film industry, coming once again into the mainstream of the Hindi Film industry, she would give a new meaning to the serious character portrayal as she is now beyond an age where glamour as a quotient seems to have a value for her. May be it is time once more for Gulzar to don his hat and give the audience a new product which is in the pie line for quite some time with Sarika in the lead role.
