View Max Stardust Awards Night - Picture GalleryFor the film industry is the month when the report card of the past year is announced and the popularity or otherwise of stars of all categories are made for the consumption of the general public. For this month, to hold the tiara or the trophies lobbying is done, communications are revived and the prospective winners to have their claims on the trophies in their respective categories pull up all stops. While for Oscars it is always a difficult choice to get one self-transplanted in the winning list of the awardees, there is always an undercurrent of murmur in the Hindi film industry that awards at one time or the other tend to get manipulated, as it is based on feedback and feedbacks can be bought through purchase of the medium through which the feedback is sought.

One redeeming feature of this year seems to be that the award nights which had become a jamboree in the years gone by, what with extravaganza and razzmatazz of all kinds in the open spaces, and had become an unmanageable proposition are returning back to close doors for sanity. Awards have to be indoors as then the time limit of shutting the show at 10.00 clock in the night is not applicable, and even otherwise the telecast is a delayed one, so it can always follow the award night. This has been the convention in Hollywood and Oscars telecast is done in such a professional manner that is savored the entire world over. There are no favors to be gained so the passes are not doled out, as it is a function that is for the industry and it is but logical that the participation should be from the industry.

As the industry has turned a new leaf and has turned indoors, may be it needs to take one more cue from its elder brother, Hollywood, and try to set awards in the memory of its pioneers as the same is still in a miniscule proposition as compared to Hollywood, while the number of celebrities or super stars who are being consigned to the annals of yellowing pages of the history is legendary. The industry has created new awards but they carry the tag of the corporate It is that time once again: Awards Night It is that time once again: Awards Night, which always has an element of subtle favoritism, embedded in it. One exception in this category has been the award, which is given in the memory of R.D. Barman as being the most original discovery in the field of music. Now that the industry is flush with funds, may be from this year such awards may increase to honor the memory of the legends who have passed into the annals of history, but without a corporate tag associated with it.
