Kareena Kapoor: beauty at crossroads

When one is named one of the most enigmatic beauties of the time aka Anna Kareina then it is sort of a natural choice to have this cloak of mystique surround the persona. Kareena Kapoor seems to be no exception. At 27, which she has stepped into today, the mystique in the persona still is a mystery unraveled.
Starting a career with the likes of J P Dutta in REFUGEE in 2000, in a career span of around ten years, Kareena has bagged four Filmfare awards of which three are the awards which have been awarded by the critics right from the first award that she got for her debut making film REFUGEE to the last award that she got for CHAMELI.
Once one begins a career on a serious note, with a performance that is taken notice about seriously, meandering to the popcorn variety in between does not serve the purpose and one has to return to one's own vocation. The same happened in the case of Kareena. After making a fantastic debut in REFUGEE and making a name for herself as a serious actress, she might have oscillated between various commercial films, but the reputation that she has come to build about herself has been owing to the power house of performances that she brought about in the films of the off-beat variety be it in DEV or in CHAMELI.
She is the actor who was able to carve out an image of her in the commercial realm, which is akin to that of Barbie as she did in KABHIE KHUSHI KABHIE GUM and more such movies but her heart and loyalty lay with the original streak that had given her the stardom or the serious roles.
Therefore whenever she was given an opportunity to do so her performance was like the duck that takes naturally to the water, and blessed indeed she is that she has been presented with these kinds of opportunities through out her short stint of career. With her deglamourized enactments Kareena has time and again proved that she is an accomplished actress, and when the situation has demanded she has also pouted out the most glamorous of the contemporaries hanging around to carve her own glam doll image in the industry.
Probably coming as she was from the illustrious family or the first family of the Indian cinema, the Kapoor's, she has a reputation to live up to. Whenever she has been careless the critics have tore apart her performances and she has used that as the catalyst to step on the pedal to give one more enthralling performance to shut the mouth of the critics. She is still sitting on the laurels that she has earned for herself for OMKARA and she has once again proved that she is a director's actor. Among her generation she would be probably the only actress who has worked with directors like J P Dutta to Sudhir Mishra to Govind Nihlani to work with whom any actress with a career span of five six years would give a right arm to.
The item songs which were dying a slow death got a new lease of life when Kareena Kapoor did a dance item in DON made by Farhan Akhtar, and further polished it with the item song, ‘Its Rocking’, where with a single song she was able to overshadow the main heroine of the film Ayesha Takia.
As the Hindi cinema is coming up with interesting content it indeed would surely be interesting time for Kareena Kapoor to grow into.
