Apprehensions are being expressed in some quarters that after the recent attacks on various visible symbols that describe about Mumbai, be it Taj Mahal Hotel, or the Bombay VT station or the promenade besides the Gateway of India would not find a place in the cinematic expression. Is it so easy to forget the landscape and go into denial mode about the existence of these landscapes on the body formation of a vibrating and pulsating entity called Mumbai?

It would be too deductionist an argument to even talk about it. It would be like saying that when New York is shown it would be shown without showing the statue of liberty. Even to think along those lines would be an aberration.

As the opinions have united about creating a new viewpoint in the political dispension, manifest from the congregation of humanity to express solidarity with the spirit of Mumbai, the film fraternity also needs to take a vow that they would shoot with a renewed vigor and these prominent landscapes to announce to the world the affection and esteem these landscapes have for the city of Mumbai.

It should be taken as the clarion call to shoot and set up a film primarily around these landscapes. As a matter of the recent incident of the terrorist hang out threw up the landscape of Leopold prominently all across the globe. What better way to market this iconic landscape of Mumbai than to situate a film, more so a love story around this landscape. Leopold could have attained the iconic status all over the world had Shantaram; the film which Meera Nair had planned could have gone to the floor.

How can one forget these landscapes of Mumbai? Which other city provides such contrasts when the area around the Gateway of India is shot during the daytime and when it is shot aerially during the night?

Spirit of Mumbai would continue to reverberate and pulsate in the hearts of the cinema fraternity. After all it is these images, which is conveyed all across the country that creates aspiration in the heart to come to Mumbai and carve a career and be a part of this landscape. These images are symbolic representations of aspirations and hopes and they never can be crushed down by any kind of mishap of any nature of manifestation.
