He would be one of the rare few directors who could make a successful transition from being a successful director to being a successful actor, who in the bargain also facilitated in giving a new lease of life to the business of rock music in the country as he did it in ROCK ON.
It was owing to this newfound success, and the diversified achievements that Farhan Akhtar has been able to achieve that he was selected as a brand icon for Maruti's new car model A Star. It is also one of the first times where Maruti has used a celebrity endorsee to endorse its product, that too a new product to be launched in the market. Choice of Farhan has been guided by the image of new India that he projects, through his various films as also through his roles that he enacts.
Keeping the same spirit he has also started a new talk show and it has also met with a huge success. It is to the credit of Farhan Akhtar that he could give a new urban chic portrayal to Aamir Khan in DIL CHAHTA HAI and it still is the hairdo that is indicative of a new urban India, urban in its thought and in its spirit, in its ideology and in its policies.
Therefore for 2008, if there is one real success, which is all encompassing and it transcends the boundaries of a role, Farhan Akhtar would be the man to fit the bill.
