Aditya Chopra must be chuckling with delight at the success that he has achieved with RAB NE BANA DI JODI, as it was less than 11 months ago that he had to face the barb of the public and was riled by the critics as well when he had made AAJA NACH LE. But he has again resurrected his idea of dance as a medium of salvation and making it stand on the head by portraying dance as a means of finding the individual identity has gone all the way laughing to the bank.

It is on account of the fact that RAB NE BANA DI JODI is after all a quest for finding the self through the medium of dance, striving to attain the salvation through dance. Dance after all has been used as the purpose vehicle of discovery of self, about the relationships of life, and about the ways in which relationships need to be conducted.

The criticism has been particularly been very sharp and pointed during the last one year against the Yash Raj banner in general and the manner in which the whole business of film making was being conducted by Aditya Chopra. In the whole melee it is forgotten that there are two kinds of filmmakers as a category and Yash Raj films fall in the category where in they make money to make movies, the other category being make movies to make money. Incidentally, this is the philosophy of the Oscar winning director Brad Bird who is credited with such films as RATATOUILLE and THE INCREDIBLES. If the diverse form of movies that Yash Raj banner made during the last year were gleaned into it would be found that the extent of the experimentation of canvas was so large that any other company would have thought twice before attempting the same.

One often wonders whether AAJA NACH LE, if it had followed RAB NE BANA DI JODI would have had a differential impact, as dance had moved from being a channel vehicle for personal salvation to being a platform to express the angst of the society against the onslaught of modernism trying to muffle the voices of contrast and diversity.

Now that RAB NE BANA DI JODI has hit bulls' eye, it should further buoy Aditya Chopra to raise the bar and experiment further as RNBDJ has made money for him to further experiment.
