The award season for the Indian film industry has already been kicked off and as the winter refuses to bow its head and is maintaining a defiant posture the chill of the winter could mean display of some new style and awards in the award functions. Award functions after all are the place where the statement is made by the nominees by way of the dress that they are wearing and new getups and looks that they have adopted for themselves.

When one compares with the way the award functions are used to convey the style as a statement to the world on the part of the film fraternity in Hollywood and the Hindi film industry, nothing still beats the Oscars night that happens at Hollywood. This is owing to the fact probably that all such is the sanctity of the Oscars that all the nominees and the participants make it a point to be amongst the celebrity crowd and not miss the action. In our case the difference lies in the fact that there is a constant coming in and going out of the stars on a regular basis in any award function so the entries once the programmes have started are not that grandiose.

There is no parallel in the Hindi film industry to the statement that Jodie Foster had made in 1989 at the Oscars when she had walked on the red carpet on the Oscars night to accept the best actress award for THE ACCUSED, while wearing a baby blue taffeta ball gown with a giant bow on the derriere. This is considered one of the biggest coups at the Oscars.

But nothing outrageous could be expected at any of the award show in India. What then can we expect:

- Aamir Khan making debut along with his protégée Darsheel Safary for a change to tell the world that he has now for once taken a decision to grace an award function
- CHAK DE team walking the red carpet with the writer Jaideep Sahni and the Director Shimit Ameen leading the bandwagon
- Saif Ali Khan along with Kareena Kapoor making it official for the whole world to see

Expression of a style through deeds and actions could be the first step forward for the Hindi film industry and may be as the season for the award reaches its climax style statement being expressed through a fashion statement may convert award functions into a forum for expression of style and setting of a new agenda through style for the world to wait with baited breathe for.
