KULESAN the new Rajnikant starrer has one of the few firsts. It is for the first time that a singer from Hindi belt, aka Daler Mehndi is going to croon in Tamil under the baton of G.V. Prakash, who is one of the protegees of A.R. Rahman. It has taken nearly twenty years for a feat of this kind to happen, a reverse migration. It was in MAINE PYAAR KIYA as also in CHITCHOR, SWAMI etc., all that singers from South like S.P. Balasubramaniam and Yesudas tested their vocal chords and went on to establish successful singing career in Hindi films as well. But the same effort with same outreach was not observed from the singers of Hindi film songs.
With the advent of A.R. Rehman a floodgate for the singers who basically were proficient in Tamil and Malayalam opened and they could enamor the Hindi film music aficionados with their own linguistic nuance in rendition of the song of Hindi films. This journey was started by Rehman with ROZA and still continues to pulsate with vibrancy manifest from award of being the best music director being conferred on him for GURU.
Now with KULESAN, a Rehman protegee the clock has turned back the full circle. For Rajnikant as well, it would be a good walk down the memory lane as the song sung by Daler Mehndi for him in Tamil would surely remind Rajni of his association with Hindi films.
Rajnikant and Kamal Hassan as a duo have the reputation of attempting some thing or the other in a novel manner for their films. With Daler Mehndi being chosen for a Rajnikant starrer, a day is not far off when Kamal Hassan would pick another singer for his next starrer. At a subsequent date, when KULESAN is released in Hindi, as other Rajni starrer films are being done, the film would have as its one of USPs the song sung by Daler. At least for this song the audience would not take much time to connect.
