Comparisons are odious when two films release on the same day, but between JAANE TU YA JAANE NA and LOVE STORY 2050, JAANE TU YA JAANE NA has run away to become a super hit film. As a matter of fact it is the first film this year, which has registered 80% collection on a Monday. And the lead character does not dance, instead there is a song in the film which says " Pappu can't dance", and in the background lurk the lyrics of QAYAMAT SE QAYAMAT TAK" papa kehte hain bada naam karega", a spoof so to say that if a character does not dance it does not mean that he cannot succeed in life. As a matter of fact this spoof was featured with prominence in the last episode of Salman Khan's talk show where Aamir Khan appeared along with Imran.
On the other side LOVE STORY 2050 was marketed with one of the USPs being the amazing dancing ability of Harman Baweja, along with the fact that it was a futuristic film. Could it be the fact that with dance mushrooming from all the entertainment channels day in and day out there is a certain sense of déjà vu about it?
JAANE TU YA JAANE NA seems to have juxtapositioned the existentialist dilemma that an average teenager in the country still faces of his or her inability to express his or love and seeking friends to do the job. It is a fact of life for most of the younger generation and could be the reason why they are able to identify with the situation in the film.
It could turn out to be a blessing in disguise for the industry that instead of focusing on dance and selling it as a USP the music and the story would start getting prominence and it would help the Hindi cinema redeem itself to a certain extent in the later half of this year.
