While Imran Khan is hogging the limelight for having made a successful debut and being a part of the most successful film for the year 2008, JAANE TU YA JAANE NA, his colleague Genelia D'Souza is also not much behind. She has quietly been signing endorsements for advertisement campaign and has reportedly been paid one crore for endorsing the brands, while Imran's mamu Aamir Khan has rewarded his nephew with a BMW. The buzz in the industry is that she may be the replacement for the advertisement campaigns, which Preity Zinta has been endorsing. Genelia carries the same spunk and the infectious smile which made Preity the pretty face of industry.

Genelia may reverse the trend of the industry where the stars, when they make their debut, it seldom happens that the male and female actors continue to have same flourishing career after a successful hit film as debut. It all started with BOBBY where Rishi Kapoor and Dimple Kapadia had a dream debut, but Rishi Kapoor went on to become a successful star and Dimple Kapadia became Rajesh Khanna's wife.

Raj Kapoor tried to do this with Rajiv Kapoor as well, but it was Mandakini who hogged the limelight and Rajiv Kapoor had to be content with a rather smallish career in the Hindi films. When Ajay Devgun was launched along with Madhu in PHOOL AUR KAANTE, Madhu could not follow in the success that this film achieved and Ajay Devgun still rules the roost while Madhu has literally given up her film career. In BEKHUDI while Kajol and Kamal Sadhana were introduced, Kajol still has the film fraternity eating out of her hands, while Kamal Sadhana has gone into oblivion. BARSAAT had launched Bobby Deol and Twinkle Khanna, and it was Bobby who became successful, while Twinkle has chosen career of interior designing. In case of Hrithik Roshan and Ameesha Patel as well, though KAHO NA PYAR HAI was a dream debut for both of them, Ameesha could not capitalize on its success, and Hrithik Roshan became one of the top stars of the industry. Saif Khan and Mamta Kulkarni had a good debut in AASHIQ AWAARA, but Mamta Kulkarni has fallen by the way side and Saif still rules the roost.

In case of Gennelia it might be different as she already has a successful career in the South Indian film industry, and her greatest asset seems to be her infectious smile. This is what could turn the tide in her favour and could reverse the trend of industry as well.
