Enkayaar, Bollywood Trade News Network
It had to happen; the question was who would take the lead. Anil Ambani's Company Big B entertainment has finally taken the lead and with a war chest of $500 million announced to the Hollywood about coming of the age of the Indian film industry. It is also in sync with the present trend wherein entertainment is being billed as the biggest industry that could give a new meaning to the way the trade relations would be conducted between the countries. It also signifies further consolidation of the India incorporation which has already started foot mapping the world, the ignition being provided by efforts of Ratan Tata.
The deal that has been signed includes whose who of Hollywood, and includes Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, and Robin Williams, the top shots of Hollywood, who have had an experience of Indian flavor in one form or the other. The incident has an ominous sign, as entertainment is one industry which is passionately viewed by the general public of USA. There is a striking parallel between this development and what had been done by Japan. Japan had been making significant strides in USA, but the day Sony bought out Columbia Tri-Star, Japan emerged as the country which started to have influence of the thought process of the Americans, through the entertainment industry. Anil Ambani's deal could have the same impact, as China even though it dominates US market, still has not entered into the entertainment sector in such a big manner as India has done.
It would have a significant bearing on the way the entertainment business would be governed in India. Having gained foothold in Hollywood with the first mover advantage, Anil Ambani would now have at his command such a rich archival entertainment material that would add certain exclusivity to the satellite television business that his entering in a big way. Besides, the access to studios of Hollywood would provide an exposure of the best kind available any where in the world and it would have significant bearing on the Indian film industry as well.
It is a monumental day for which all Indians should be proud and it is again re-affirmation about what the world has been talking about, i.e. the importance of Indian entertainment industry. World would now have to take notice of India, and its views and efforts have to be counted and recognized at international level.
