Beauty beholds in the eyes of a child and it has been visualized from the child's perspective number of times; however it would indeed be for the first time that the bane of terrorism would be visualized and scrutinized through the eyes of a child in SIKANDAR. SIKANDAR would be able to set in the proper context the poignancy and the dilemma that a child is facing in strife torn Kashmir where the inclination to pursue the interests of sports are being subsumed under the parental pressure. The opposition of the parents from Kashmir to allow their wards to represent the Indian nation is on account of the ideological differences that parents are having vis-a-vis the child for the entity called India. The idea of nationhood juxtaposed against sports and the local aspirations is a heady concoction that has the ability to stir the consciousness of the nation.
Kashmir after all is not relegated only to Chinar, Dul Lake, Gulmarg, or Sonemarg. There is a vast geographical expanse yet unexplored by the camera of the cinematographer and if the still display of SIKANDAR that were recently done in Mumbai are anything to go by, SIKANDAR is going to be a visual delight.
The lead exponents Sanjay Suri and Madhavan on other side of fences, Madhavan being an army man, while Sanjay Suri being a reformed militant is also an interesting counterpoise of SIKANDAR. For Sanjay Suri SIKANDAR was a moment to revisit his past that he left twenty years ago, and SIKANDAR is his own interpretation of a home that was his home twenty years ago, but a place where he is not able to identify himself. This is also a dilemma that a terrorist faces and to be able to pick up the pieces once again to start the life afresh is one of the most arduous tasks. For Sanjay Suri therefore it would indeed be acid test to be able to express his association with his erstwhile home through SIKANDAR.
SIKANDAR has already swept the audience across the feet in USA and Piyush Jha would be hoping for an encore. The hope would also stem from the fact that SIKANDAR could in a way provide an alternate way to approach the problem of strife that Kashmir has been besotted with for the last twenty years. SIKANDAR is one who surmounts all odds, and let's hope for the sake of Kashmir Piyush Jha's SIKANDAR does the same.
