SIKANDAR does have the potential to score with the young audience of the country, as it is after a long-long time a film has been released that focuses on the game of football to make the statement. For most of the young children around the country, though they may have the passion for cricket in their heart, it is the slugfest that they initiate over a game of football is what brings out the rush of adrenalin in a most demonstrative manner and SIKANDAR seems to be providing enough evidence about the same.
As a matter of fact the choice of the sports, aka football for the lead actor Parzan Dastoor in SIKANDAR could also emerge as a distinction for him when his progress is compared with other child stars that try to make their mark at the cusp of the adulthood, his reference point being KUCH KUCH HOTA HAI. In the same manner Ayesha Kapoor also has an interesting turn around from the performance that she enacted in BLACK as in SIKANDAR she plays the role of a Kashmiri girl. But the hills as the background for Ayesha Kapoor are interesting as BLACK was situated in Shimla while SIKANDAR has been situated in Kashmir.
The children of the present times need a reality check of the kind that SIKANDAR tries to posit for them, as it is a question of loss of innocence for most of the children against the onslaught of various kinds of pressures. It is the loss of innocence of the children that is worrying the filmmakers and it indeed is a healthy development as the innocence should be lost only when its time is due and not before. If it is lost before its due time, then all the sense of balance from the life is tad difficult to achieve.
Credit should also be given to Sudhir Mishra as he continues to be vexed about the loss of innocence and the quest to find a solution to the same that he began with HAZAARON KHWAHISHEN AISI. It would also be for the first time that with SIKANDAR the aspect of innocence that still remains intact inspite of a character being thrown on to a wrong path is being given a proper perspective. SIKANDAR could indeed begin a new trend of unraveling the losses of innocence in the melee of the quest for material comforts, a reality check so to say.
