It has happened after a long time in the world of Hindi music songs that a singer began with a triumphant note in the beginning of the year and has also signed off the year with panache as well. Who would have thought that Mohit Chauhan would have such a resounding success in the year 2009 and his name would become a sine quo non-with the hit films during the year? Mohit Chauhan can indeed be the biggest success story for the 2009 as far as the world of playback singing is concerned. The feat has been achieved after a long-long time.
During the year Mohit Chauhan has carved a niche for himself in a particular way as a background voice for the lead actor, or so to say, the voice of the soul of the lead actor airing the feelings and giving the whole ambience a really soulful ambience. The success story began with Masakkali from DELHI-6 that really catapulted Mohit Chauhan into the elite category and though DELHI-6 was not a resounding success the song set the whole nation on fire.
Haafiz Khuda in 8x10 TASVEER, which again was a hit song, though the film was not a huge success, followed it. The real reason for the success of Mohit Chauhan is the haunt that he brings into his voice and it could be on account of the grounding that he got in the serene climes of Shimla and adjoining areas. It could also be the reason why his voice has emerged as the voice of the soul, rather than being the voice of playback.
KAMINEY's "Pehli Baar Mohabbat ki hai" was another soulful rendition that emphasized the point that indeed Mohit Chauhan had a voice, which was going to stay for long. Again, Mohit Chauhan did not provide the voice over to Shahid Kapoor, but the song continued to play from the background on various occasions. It indeed is a new trend in the world of Hindi films where a singer is providing the voice over but he is being presented not in the form of a voice over, but in interspersed nodes expressing various feelings experienced by the lead actor.
He further affirmed his authority as a singer with a difference through the song "Tune Jo na Kaha" from NEW YORK. This song again continued to play through the background whenever Neil Nitin Mukesh was presented with an existentialist dilemma of keeping his feelings on a tight leash for Katrina Kaif.
Mohit Chauhan signed off 2009 with LOVE AAJ KAL's "Yeh Dooriyan", and it again accentuated his style of being a singer who has become a voice of the soul of the lead player in a film.
It is a new genre that has been carved for Mohit Chauhan, either accidentally or by choice, but it has indeed provided a sense of authenticity to the character for which the songs are played. May be, Mohit Chauhan is going to write a new chapter in the world of Hindi music in the coming years.
