DEEPIKA PADUKONE, PRIYANKA CHOPRA and AISHWARIYA RAI BACHCHAN
Fearless Nadia must be proud, that her successors after a long time are discovering the forte of action to make themselves distinct in the crowd and have no two thought of jumping into the fire or climbing up a cliff to be on par with their male brethren. CHANDNI CHOWK TO CHINA has emphasized this fact in an underlining manner and the preparation that Deepika Padukone did for her role is reflected in a distinct manner on the screen.
After all, beauty in combination with the prowess to fight and hold fort has been a criteria that has enamored the audience since the ages, and was one of the sole reasons for the success of the films of fearless Nadia. The era of coy and demure as hallmark pushed this ability into a latent stage, but the advent of the likes of the female actors like Zeenat Aman and Parveen Babi brought it back into the reckoning once again in the Hindi cinema. This may have to do with the understanding on part of the directors to experiment with this genre for the film stars like Parveen Babi and Zeenat Aman on account of the notion of modernity being associated with them. This seemed to be the factor in case of Priyanka Chopra in DRONA where she learnt the art of Sikh warriors in providing protection to Abhishek Bachchan.
The ability to do so on the part of the present generation of actors like Priyanka Chopra and Deepika Padukone is also on account of the svelte and suave physical disposition that they have. It is also more in sync with the international trend and has the ability to draw the attention of western audiences as well. With the likes of Angelina Jolie being the reference point, to reach somewhere near it through the Hindi films, element of action has to be initiated into the characterization. Aishwarya Rai epitomized the same in DHOOM: 2, along with Bipasha Basu, and Aishwarya carried the same through JODHAA AKBAR as well.
In such a scenario the element of coyness and blush is going to be replaced by the resolve of action and fights. Let the action begin.
