One does not know whether Bob Morley's ''song of redemption'' at any point of time had an influence on Gulzar, but in film after film where the subject is youth he writes one song that portrays the songs of existentialist dilemma of the youth in the most succinct manner.
These songs however are not songs of despair but they also have a ray of hope imbedded in them, and the song ''Dhan Te Nan'' in KAMINEY is no exception to the premise. KAMINEY provides an opportune moment to have a re-look into these songs of redemption which still warms the cockles of young and not so young, whenever it is played out.

In all probably with ''Koi Hota Jisko Apna'' and ''Haal Chaal Theek Thak Hai'' from MERE APNE. It was probably the first film where the angst of youth despaired with unemployment, was brought out in distinct relief with this film. Set to the music of Salil Chaudhary, the importance of film also lay in the fact that it was for the first time that Kishore Kumar sang under the baton of Salil Chuddar, acknowledging the singing prowess of Kishore Kumar
