Those of use who would have watched the DUS KA DUM in the second Avatar particularly would have been swept off the feat by the manner in which Salman Khan made the audience eat of his hands. It was a smart move of inviting Katrina Kaif his lady interest as also Neil Nitin Mukesh and cornering them on various embarrassing issues. And the news did spread fast around the countryside, people calling their relatives and asking them to tune into Sony television to watch the show. This writer received the same as well. There could not have been a better way to increase the TRP rating than Salman Khan, Katrina Kaif and Neil Nitin Mukesh, particularly when Salman was targeting Katrina and also Neil Nitin Mukesh and Katrina responding as well, that Neil was indeed cute. The moot point is what Sony channel could not do in terms of achieving increased TRP through its repositioning post-IPL was done by one single show hosted by a film star, Salman Khan.
Colors television channel which is now among the first three entertainment channels in the country, also did the same thing, when it hired Akshay Kumar to host the Fear Factor that captivated whole of the nation. Now Colors, once it has started loosing its luster slightly has announced that the second season of Fear Factor is just around the corner.
In such a scenario the question that needs to be asked is how long will the television channels hitch hike on the back of the established stars to increase their TRPs, and when the threat of a competition starts looming large come up with another program in which another bigger star would be asked to anchor a programme. It all had started with Amitabh Bachchan when he started anchoring KAUN BANEGA CROREPATI, and he did it with aplomb for two seasons, making Star Plus the numero uno TV channel in the country, and in the bargain also gave a new lease of life to Amitabh Bachchan's career. Shah Rukh Khan had stepped into the footsteps of Amitabh Bachchan and he also did a neat job with KBC, but he could not do the encore with KYA AAP PANCHVI PAAS HAIN? Salman Khan and Akshay Kumar subsequently jumped into the arena.
One thing that has to be noticed is that the success the stars have in the television programme is also owing to the fact that they invite their brothers and sisters from the family to improve the TRPs. How long would television continue to sell TV, one does not know. For the film stars it indeed is neat money and they are able to connect with their fans in a much-focused manner.
The moot point in whole debate is would television not be able to stand on its fact or is it that our country still believes that " No business is like show busyness" and therefore they keep on going back to the established film stars to improve their health. It would indeed be worth watching when the celebrated female film stars would make their debut on television as well. One point is clear that television in the present position would not be able to survive without film stars, and film stars need publicity, as they can reach directly into the drawing rooms of the public, so there would also be a clamour from their side to be a part of the show on TV. Kareena, Ranbir Kapoor are you guys listening?
