A brand has indeed been created in the Indian film industry that has established with panache that neat and clean comedy is their forte and they can establish instant chemistry with the audience whenever all three of them pool their resources together. It has never happened in the history of Indian films that a trio in the form of Akshay Kumar, Paresh Rawal and Suneil Shetty set the box office on fire with their perfect sense of comedy. The trio has evolved through HERA PHERI, PHIR HERA PHERI and now De DANA DAN establishes their supremacy as a trio of unmatched performance. HUMGAMA and HULCHUL did not have Akshay Kumar and therefore both these films though directed by Priyadarshan fell at the box office. DHOL also met the same fate.

Factoring in the USP that they have developed as a brand, it indeed is one of the apparent paradoxes why Priyadarshan, who again directs this trio in DE DANA DAN does not nurture them as a band through a series of cinematic expositions. Does it owe more to do with the fact that there is issue of dates associated with these three stars, or is it owing to the fact that the inane comedy makes critics cry blue murder and therefore the trio as also the director try to chip in with some serious stuff in between, it is altogether a different matter that the serious stuffs tumble at the box office.

Critics may carp at the absurdity of DE DANA DAN however they need to be reminded about the fact that the human mind is not at all programmed in such a manner that it would respond to rational thinking and identify with it. Creative people thrive in the absurdities and it is what brings out the best from them.

Following in the footsteps of ALL THE BEST and AJAB PREM KI GHAJAB KAHANI, the release of DE DANA DAN could indeed be the balm that the citizens of Mumbai are looking for, in the aftermath of the anniversary of 26 November that was commemorated yesterday. Humour can only provide the balm to the distressed souls and the sooth the frayed nerves in one of the most remunerative sectors, territory wise. If it happens, then fallout would also be that Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif would emerge as one of the hottest pairs as far as the success with the box office is concerned.
