It indeed is one of the apparent paradoxes of our country, that thought it is a country having a rich tradition of magic, occult, magicians, black magic etc., whenever a cinematic expression of the same has been made it has not met the approval of the public in the desired quantum. Paradoxically, Hollywood which caters to the audiences who do not have a faith in magic and occult, whenever makes an attempt in this direction, it is met with a resounding success. Can ALADIN therefore buck the trend and establish a honeymoon with the audience, more so with the children?

ALADIN, which is releasing this Friday, has tried to package the notions of magic in a modern context. Who does not want Jinn to grant a wish and ALADIN tries to build up its narrative around the same theme. For Big B it would indeed be a big test as his honeymoon with the box office has somewhat lost its magic, and the time has indeed come when the magic needs to be reestablished. Among one of the highlights of the film that ALADIN would mark the debut of a Sri Lankan beauty Jacqueline. In economic terms it means that ALADIN can have a territory for Sri Lanka as well, and this could pave the way for more intermingling between the two countries at the cinematic levels. Indeed for her the Jinni has already granted the wish as female stars wait for their lifetimes to share the same frame with Amitabh Bachchan, while she is making her debut with him.

Last time when Sanjay Dutt and Amitabh Bachchan were together in KAANTE the pair had indeed ignited the silver screen, and Sujoy Ghosh would indeed be hoping that the same spark would continue with ALADIN as well. Whenever Amitabh Bachchan has sung the song for a film himself, the film has become a box office success. Does it have a pattern then, for ALADIN as well? The poser is owing to the fact that in ALADIN Vishal Sekhar have given Big B two songs to sing, while Sanjay Dutt has also sung one song for ALADIN.

Realm of magic is an area, which has a latent excitement for all of us as in our heart of hearts we desire that a Jinni should come and give us a windfall. Sujoy Ghosh has tried to package the adventures of Aladdin and the Magic Lamp and Ali Baba Aur Chalis Chor in ALADIN. Would new approach to magic catch the eyeballs of the audience, time would provide the answer.
