The series analyzing the decade gone by had tried to focus on the significant trends that were moments of disruption as far as the progress of Hindi cinema was concerned. Now that the analysis is coming to an end, one of the significant aspects, the role and acceptability of the second generation of actors by the movie viewing public is being focused upon through this feature.

Luv Sinha is the latest entrant to the world of Hindi cinema and he tried to follow a different pattern to make his debut. The story line chosen was a love story based on the borders of India and Pakistan with lots of Punjabi flavor thrown into it. However the audience has not liked the film, and there were reports that people walked out of the cinema halls during interval itself. So one more star debut seems to have faltered at the altar.

Last decade that has just passed by saw series of debuts of star sons, daughters, director's sons and daughters trying to claim the mantle which their parents had got after a long struggle, defining their status to do so by the genealogical link with their parents. In this decade plethora of such stars made debuts but all fell flat by their side. Uday Chopra through his MOHABBATEIN initiated the debut of decade, and though it has been nearly a decade for him in the film industry he has not found his moorings. Failure of PYAAR IMPOSSIBLE is a case in point.

Vashu Bhagnani's son Jackky Bhagnani also tried his luck through KAL KISSNE DEKHA, but the audience rejected him. It happened with Sikandar Kher (WOODSTOCK VILLA) son of Anupam and Kiron Kher. Eesha Deol also met the same fate, though her mother Hema Malini is trying to resurrect her career once again by making a new film for her. Shakti Kapoor's daughter Shraddha Kapoor also made her debut with TEEN PATTI but she has not been able to make a mark on the box office.

The star kids who have made their mark during the last decade include Abhishek Bachchan, Hrithik Roshan, Kareena Kapoor, Ranbir Kapoor, Neil Nitin Mukesh, Shruti Hassan, Shamita Shetty, Imran Khan, and Shahid Kapoor etc. it has been a mixed bag of success for them and the success is guided by the family to which they belonged. Even then, they had to endure the taste of failure, before succeeding. But the trend right now seems to have undergone change, and the audience is not ready to accept the star kids, because they are star kids, if they are not able to perform.

At the times when cost of making films has become such a expensive proposition, the idea of introducing star sons on to the screen through the families seemed to be guided by the fact that the legacy of the family would continue in the next generations, but the public does not seem to relish the idea. With the era of ensemble cinema coming into vogue in a big way, the star sons and daughters could find it difficult to carve a niche for themselves. Or they may have to come up with innovative content to continue the legacy of the family.
