Today on the eve of the World Environment Day, if one were to do a cross check of the most visible icon who is promoting the cause of environment, Abhishek Bachchan would emerge hands down. His ability to mobilize the public view and making a success out of it can be gauged from the fact that the Paper Industries Manufacturers association had filed a case against Abhishek Bachchan about harming the cause of the industry by advocating less usage of paper. Abhishek Bachchan was also associated with the campaign of electricity conservation when whole country voluntarily decided to switch electricity for one hour. It is altogether a different matter that whole issue got embroiled in a different controversy.

Another film star who in his own manner is making efforts for the cause of the industry is John Abraham. John has been seriously advocating for the cause of protection of tigers and has pooled his resources to make a film with Green Oscar winner Mike Pandey that would be able to spread the message for need of protection of the tiger.

However the activism has not reached the same proportions as it has been done in Hollywood where the film stars are fighting for the cause of the environment all over the world. They are making sensitive films as well that tries to address the cause of the environment both in their native country as also around the globe.

Preity Zinta: On the eve of the World Environment Day, may be we could take this opportunity and identify certain stars who could be thought of as the brand ambassadors to work for the cause of the environment. First and foremost name can be thought off at this stage is that of Preity Zinta. She belongs to Himachal Pradesh, which is also known as Dev Bhumi. Dev Bhumi is crying for urgent political interference so that bids may not be lost.

Bipasha Basu: Another actor who has got quite a recognition quotient by virtue of being associated with advertisements is Bipasha Basu who also loves to be associated with social causes. She could be the perfect brand ambassador for the Royal Bengal Tigers. When a tigress implores for protection of tigers, may be then authorities may listen.

Asin and Deepika Padukone: Kerala and Karnataka are one of the hotspots where the Sahyadris are under grave threat and the authorities could think about ways to involve them in the cause of protection of the environment as the kind of flora and fauna that exists in these two states would be envy for any other country.

The list provided here is only illustrative but is indicative of efforts that can be initiated to protect the cause of the environment.
