The promos of Gurinder Chadha's new film ITS A WONDERFUL LIFE, which is going to be released in Hindi as HAI MARJAWAN has Shabhana Azmi as the lead protagonist in the film. The point to be underlined is that to play the role Shabhana gained weight of more than 15-20 kgs, and it is for the first time that a female actor from India has taken this initiative to justify the demand of the role.

Off-late Hindi cinema and the actors associated with the world of Hindi cinema have been transforming themselves and preparing in right earnest to play the roles that are the demand of the script. For an actor, it really is a challenge to be able to gain weight for enacting the role, and subsequently to reduce it. Here is a snapshot of some of these initiatives over the years:



GURU: In Mani Ratnam's film to enact the role of Gurubhai Abhishek Bachchan had put on oodles of weight to live the age which he had to enact rather than rely on the ability of the camera to project the part.
