Broken relationships of bollywood developing green shoots

It is one of the apparent paradoxes that one of the most successful screen pair of Hindi cinema Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol has a problem when it comes to mixing of families, more so Ajay Devgn mixing with Shah Rukh Khan. May be. It indeed has gone on for quite a long time, and then Gauri Khan decided to take some initiative on her own when she went out and introduced herself to Ajay Devgn in a party to celebrate the success of ONCE UPON A TIME IN MUMBAAI.

In the same manner Rekha had tried to walk the talk when she appeared for some book launch event and saw Jaya Bachchan in the party and walked up in full media glare to initiate a process of dialogue.

While these efforts to reach out have involved families who are probably anxious to let the past be the past, even film stars who spoke out against each other and used media are now coming together to display a new sense of camaraderie that they seems to have discovered about each other. So, Vivek Oberoi walked up and reportedly apologized to Salman Khan and suggested that let by-gones be by-gones. In the same manner Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan seem to be burying the hatchet and trying to be professional in the public realm.

As a matter of fact the effort to patch up seems to be guided by the premise that stars should behave in a certain dignified manner in the public realm and not spat against each other and oil the gossip mills.

One often wonders where the spirit of friendship and camaraderie gone is. One is reminded of Pran's vintages during his struggling days in Mumbai. Pran had written that he along with Dev Anand, Dilip Kumar all used to travel in the local train and share the developments of the day. May be, the star and cronies were not there to pander to the egos so the friendships evolved. Besides, the prying eyes of media were not there to add oil to the fire.

One also wonders whether media at times has a role to play in fostering the fault lines. It all had started in a big way when Big B had started taking over from Rajesh Khanna after ANAND, and manifested along. It was in full bloom when Vinod Khanna and Amitabh Bachchan had a difference, and where it not for Vinod Khanna walking off to Rajneesh Ashram one does not know where it all would have ended. In the same manner, the difference that cropped up between Amitabh Bachchan and Shatrughan Sinha from DOSTANA days got a life with KALA PATHTHAR and came into full bloom with NASEEB. Fortunately, now they have buried the hatchet and lets' hope that somebody someday would think about some project involving these two stalwarts.

May be, an Abhishek and a Sonakshi along with Shotgun and Big B could be an interesting combination. While the so called spats have their own life, it is ephemeral and the audience loses out to some possible clashes between titans on the screen. Let's hope that after Gauri Khan's initiative would again trigger a process of urge in Aditya Chopra to hold the baton once again and direct a movie starring Ajay Devgn, Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol.
