When Sri Lal Shukla had written Rag Darbari more than two decade ago, he would not have imagined that plight of those who remain at the fringe of development would not see much change on a positive side. PEEPLI [LIVE] is a telling comment on the manner in which the policies are formulated from top for people down below without factoring in their needs and aspirations. As a matter of fact, but for highlighting the lop-sided polices, the irony would rarely have come to light. No wonder, the director of PEEPLI [LIVE] Anusha Rizvi has done a commendable job as she had been reporting from ground zero for NDTV and therefore has given the whole perspective of so-called rural development a real view which is dominated more by farce than anything else. As a matter of fact issues of rural development seldom get such pithy notation as it has been done in PEEPLI [LIVE]. Earlier also Hindi cinema had tried to address the issue and here indeed is an opportunity to have a relook to those moments:
NAYA DAUR: The existentialist dilemma of development from a rural perspective and urban requirements was brought out poignantly through this B R Chopra classic and Johny Walker as the quintessential reporter gave a humorous tinge to the whole perspective.
