By sheer providence or whatever Dibakar Banerjee's LOVE, SEX, AUR DHOKHA, being produced by Balaji Motion Pictures is a heady combination that is going to shock the veneer of morality maintained on the urban social fabric of the country. Balaji Motion Pictures is eponymous in the history of television to shock the viewers of the country by laying threadbare the so-called moral issues and creating an environment for the public to accept the realities of the changing times, characterized by deceit, urge for sexual relationships outside the moral norms and to indulge in Dhokha at the drop of hat.
The USP of LSD is that Dibakar Banerjee has tried to chronicle the relationships as they are unfolding on a day-to-day basis in the daily life of an average individual and to add authenticity to the product at times footage from ordinary surveillance camera forms a part of the film. LOVE SEX AUR DHOKHA is the film that has been completely shot in a digital format, however here the authenticity is added by deliberately giving a home-video effect, characterized by element of shoddiness written all over it.
After focusing his attention on middle class Delhi through his earlier two films KHOSLA KA GHOSLA and OYE LUCKY LUCKY OYE, with LOVE SEX AUR DHOKHA Dibakar Banerjee shifts the focus to the middle class of India which is grappling with the issues of existentialism trying to balance the notions of modernity, but not inclined to leave its roots of tradition.
The core issue in LOVE, SEX AUR DHOKHA is the lack of privacy for the urban youth owing to obtrusive nature of the prying devices of media in all formats and its effect on the inter personal relationships of the youth of the country. It also needs to be underlined that initially LSD would release only in the 16 cities of the country, those cities, where youth is determining the evolution of the social dynamics of the country.
As it is a path breaking film, Dibakar Banerjee has taken it upon himself to publicize the film with the youth of the country, and he is touring the colleges of these 15 cities to create awareness for LOVE, SEX AUR DHOKHA. It would be interesting to watch whether this initiative would develop LOVE for the film or would the audience do a DHOKHA to Dibakar Banerjee?
