Maharashtra Day, 50th year of formation of state & tribute to Marathi spirit through Hindi films

It's the fiftieth year of formation of Maharashtra Day and it indeed is a moment where one should pause and pay tribute to a state that has contributed in a big way to evolution of the world of Hindi cinema over the years. Here one would like to point out certain films that provided a vignette into the different cities of the state and also became catalytic factor in evolution of these cities as hot spot of tourism.

If one were to talk in the modern context and not push the bar much further than two decades, the first film that would come to mind would be BOMBAY.

BOMBAY: as the name suggests was the first film where Mumbai was used as a backdrop to develop a love story between a Hindu boy and a Muslim girl, and it could not have prospered in any other city but Mumbai, as it is the ultimate in cosmopolitan ethos.
