The caricature that the king of the jungle has been reduced to in Sajid Khan's HOUSEFULL is indeed symptomatic of the status that the tiger has been reduced to in the country. The humble and docile manner in which tiger has been projected in HOUSEFULL makes him more like a dog who is contemplating when is his end going to come through the hands of the man?
Tigers have indeed traveled a long journey, and HOUSEFULL marks a complete metamorphosis of the portrayal of tigers in the world of Hindi cinema, and that two within a matter of just a decade or so, during which from being an object of scare, it has become an object that needs sympathy!
Some of the tiger films that have added to his prestige are those which in a way underline the conflict between this magnificent animal and the quest of the human being to contain him and restrict him in his surroundings. Here is a snapshot of those films:
MAA: Dharmendra in the role of a forest officer, to catch the cub of a tiger separates the mother from the tiger and the mother tiger takes revenge underlining motif of the film being that the cub of the tiger should not be separated from the mother. Incidentally, it is the tagline of the present campaign to Save the Tigers.
