When the last time that in a Hindi film a lead player was shown sharing a drink of sparkling champagne in a moving car, as it was shown in KITES? One may not be able to in fact place such an event. KITES indeed has made history in this regard, as it has been candid enough to underline this social reality of the modern times, where intimacy between a man and a woman is celebrated by clicking a glass of champagne or any other liquid, as it is a celebration of the meeting of spirits, of thoughts, ideas and processes. KITES has provided an opportunity to have a relook into such moments on the silver screen in the Hindi films, though these moments are not in such large numbers, even then they are important moments as far as the evolution of Hindi cinema is concerned.
SANGAM: Who else but Raj Kapoor a connoisseur of drinks could have thought of this idea, as he did with Vyjantimala in SANGAM and made her dance in a western cloth to the song 'Main kaa karoon ram mujhe budhdha mil gaya', where the latent frustration of a newly wedded wife could blurt out in vividness after having a shot at the drink.
