There are tides in the affair of the nation that have a profound effect on its history, the tides have their effect on the general mood of the nation, and the entertainment industry being an integral part of the nation psyche also undergoes the same trauma. For the Indian entertainment industry in general and for the Hindi film industry, 2011 indeed is Annus Horribilis as it lost quite a lot of its luminaries in one single year? Such monumental loss in quick successions leaves a void that would take years and years to plug, and in some cases the void may continue to be like that.
The loss was not relegated to the acting arena but it took in its ambit the practitioners of music as well. The biggest loss to the entertainment industry has been that of Shammi Kapoor and Dev Anand, both stalwarts in their own imitable way, who held the sway over the pulse of the nation till they were enacting the role of lead performers on the silver screen. Shammi Kapoor in fact could be one of the rare stars who got a release after he passed away in the form of ROCKSTAR and for the fleeting moments where he appeared on the screen he again underlined the tower house of a performer that he was.
