It indeed is one of the fortuitous coincident in the Hindi film industry that two of the biggest icons of Hindi cinema Lata Mangeshkar and Yash Chopra celebrate their birthday within few days of each other and both of them have been catalytic in strengthening each other through their prowess to give a new dimension to evolution of Hindi cinema.

When Yash Chopra became Producer with DAAG it was Lata Mangeshkar who was selected to do the playback for the female song, and the songs, be it 'Ni Main Yaar Manana Ni', or 'Hawa Chale Kaisi', became cult songs of Hindi songs. It also initiated the process of a long lasting relationship between these two.

The relationship however really blossomed and got rooted with SILSILA, and the song 'Ye Kahan Aa Gaye Hum', is one of the all time great songs that Lata Mangeshkar has sung in her career. From then on, the combination of Lata Mangeshkar and Yash Raj Films banners, irrespective of the music director, gave one hit after another, and in fact created one of the most musically hits combinations that came into vogue in the history of Hindi cinema.

SILSILA was followed by MASHAAL, but the hallmark of YRF and Lata Mangeshkar really came into its own through FAASLE and then there was no looking back for this combination. FAASLE was followed by CHANDNI , LAMHE, AAINA, DARR and culminated into DIL WAALE DULHANIYA LE JAENGE. The phenomenal success that all these films achieved at the box office, were also catalyzed by the voice over of Lata Mangeshkar. Be it 'Janam Janam' of FAASLE, 'Tere dil mein main apni jaan rakh doon' from CHANDNI, to 'Morni baaga mein', to 'Kabhi Main Kahoon' from LAMHE, to 'Tu mere saamne' from DARR, and to 'Mere Khwabon mein jo aaye' from DDLJ, all the songs are milestones of Hindi cinema and they would not have attained the cult status where it not for the playback given by Lata Mangeshkar.

DDLJ was followed by DIL TO PAAGAL HAI which again had Lata Mangeshkar with title song walking into the hearts of the music aficionados. The epochal journey of this combination also was responsible for musical success of MOHABATTEIN. There was an interregnum of SAATHIYA in between where Lata Mangeshkar did not sing a song for YRF film, and it was a rare occasion, but she again came back into her own as an integral part of YSR films with VEER ZARA. VEER ZARA's song, 'Do pal ruka Yaado ka karwa', again brought out the sadness and pang of separation in such an emotional manner, that this song again became a cult song in the history of Hindi cinema.

However with YRF launching a new banner to make youthful films for the present generation, suddenly Lata Mangeshkar's voice was not to be found in the films made by YRF. But a voice that had laid the foundation for a banner to attain cult status, how could it be left behind. So Lata Mangeshkar's voice is the signature song for the banner, and this is the ultimate tribute that can be paid to a voice, as there is no other banner in Hindi cinema which has adapted a voice of a singer as its signature song, though there would be scores of banners which may have benefited from the voices of singers down the ages.

It is a coincidence also that both of them love white as color, and the songs that attained cult status in recent times had shades of whites in as imaginative forms as could be visualized. As they enter into their eighties, may be, one more time Lata Mangeshkar and Yash Raj Films need to come together to create magic in Hindi cinema, as that kind of music is eternal, and this combination has created eternal moments for Hindi cinema.
