'I was intimidated by Hrithik'
What are you doing in ZINDAGI NA MILEGI DOBARA which is essentially about all the young men?
I've always put my films first before me. There have been films where I've been in every scene like NAMASTEY LONDON or AJAB PREM KI GHAZAB KAHANI. Then, I have also starred in multi-starrers like RAAJNEETI. I loved ZINDAGI NA MILEGI DOBARA (script) and thought it was great. I play Laila in the film which is very important and integral to the story. She's a lovely character - free-spirited and adventurous. She is a turning point in Hrithik's life. Like you rightly said, the beauty of the story and the soul of the story is the journey of these three boys. I play a catalyst in Hrithik's life.
Since the movie is ZINDAGI NA MILEGI DOBARA, do you have a to-do list?
No. My desires, my opinions and my goals change all the time. There are so many things that I want to do. But right now, movie-making is a passion. I don't have time for anything else. Life changes; you never know what tomorrow holds. I don't know what I'll be doing tomorrow.
Do you believe in living life to the fullest?
Of course I do. We all want to find happiness and peace. We want to live without tension and stress. But that's part of the journey. The trick is to find happiness. However, the answer is different for all of us.
'My opinions and my goals change all the time'
Have you found the answer?
I haven't found it. It's a very long process and you don't know when that answer will present itself to you. You don't when you'll find your peace and contentment. Filmmaking does that to a great extent but at many points in life you will need different things. Maybe at a later stage I'll need something else to be content.
Do you have any regrets?
I have no regrets. I have been very blessed and fortunate. I don't even regret the choice of my films.
How was the experience working with Hrithik?
It was great. He's a phenomenal actor. I love his work. He's a great person to learn from. To see his talent and to have that experience was very wonderful.
Did you learn anything from him?
I learnt focus from him. From all the great actors I've worked with, I've learnt their focus and their presence of mind in every shot.
We all know what a great dancer Hrithik is. Were you intimidated by him?
I was intimidated by Hrithik. It was definitely on my mind that how the dancing would work out. But the songs in which we are dancing together are more about having fun. Also, I took it as a challenge. I love challenges. For me, if anything scares me, it's a challenge all the more to do it.
How was the experience shooting for the song in which you had tomatoes all around?
It was a lot of fun. It was like Holi. And I love Holi. I'm the first person out there in my white salwar kameez. I love the colours, water and doing masti. It's so much fun.
Did it concern you that Zoya Akhtar's first film, LUCK BY CHANCE, although critically acclaimed, didn't do well?
No, it didn't. Now that you are asking me, I am thinking about it.

Do you think ZINDAGI NA MILEGI DOBARA will take you to a different league as an actress?
I don't know. I don't have any preconceived notions before doing any film. My only desire is that every film is well-received by the audience.
Were you comfortable with the three-minute long kissing scene with Hrithik?
I don't think I've ever done anything offensive or distasteful in a film. So there's no question about being uncomfortable.
Do rumours bother you?
Yes, they do. I don't feel hurt. But I don't know why they keep coming up.
What are your future projects?
I've got MERE BROTHER KI DULHAN, EK THA TIGER and the film with Yash Chopra.
