She was missing from the theatres for the last few months but Bipasha Basu has reasons to justify her absence. She was busy shooting for films and is happy with the way her releases are lined up over the next year or so. However, right now she is focused on her next film AA DEKHE ZARA, a big one and is excited to be back in action. The actress finds out time from her busy schedule to talk to our correspondent on her films, career and her future plans.
It's more than six months that BACHNA AE HASEENO released. We haven't seen you take such a long break.

"Neil is a pleasure to work with" | Come on... I didn't take a break. It's quite some time that BACHNA... released but I was busy all the time shooting for films. In fact it's not in the hands of the actors when their films release. It happens for me at times that I don't have a single release in six months and then there are three releases in the next few months. (Smiles). It's completely the producers' prerogative when they release a film.
At the same time have you become choosy too over the years?
Not really. It's over the last five years that I don't do more than three films a year. It's a not a conscious decision but that is how things have turned out for me. I can't do more than that and after all I would always like to do good films only. This time I am happy with the timing of the release of AA DEKHE ZARA, as it will release just at a time when the audiences thought that I am missing.
Okay, you sound excited about the film.
It's going to be one great good film and that's the only reason that I am excited. It has quite a few new things to offer and there's a surprise element in the film too.

Apparently, you play a DJ in the film. Did you have to work a lot and research on the subject?
I play a DJ but it's just the back-story. The heroine needed to be given a profession and that's why it's a DJ. It's only in one of the songs that I am shown turning and scratching the discs but that is minimal and it doesn't ask for any extensive research. I play a Bengali girl from Kolkata, Simi Chatterjee who is today's girl...modern, has a mind of her own, intelligent and independent. She is an aspiring singer who comes across Ray (Neil Nitin Mukesh) and then Neil comes across a camera, which has the ability to see the future. This is where the film takes a turn.
So the film can be called a science fiction.
No you can't call it that. We are still calling it a romantic thriller. It's only that camera which is an element that makes it a sci-fi but even after that the story takes its own course, which is very real life.
Okay...Do we then get to see you romancing a lot?
Yeah...of course and you can see me doing a lot of action too. I said it's a romantic thriller and it's not only Neil but I too have done a lot of action.
You must have had to undergo hectic training sessions then...
See, (Laughs) I have always been a fitness freak and a gym person so that made up for almost everything.
And how was it working with Neil given that he is only one film old? You were the senior most in the crew.
(Smiles). It never happens that way. At least when we were working their wasn't any feeling of seniority. But I certainly came as help because here director Jehangir Surti too is a debutante. And there were also others who are very new and have only the basic idea of filmmaking. So at the end of the day, it was teamwork. We had lots of fun and also had to face difficult times. But that is always a part of every job. Moreover, Neil might be a newcomer but he is really a pleasure to work with. He is confident and is ready to give his best.

So where do we see you next?
I am shooting for Rahul Dholakia's LAMHA, which will eventually release sometime this year. It a completely different story and has Sanjay Dutt. It's about present day life in Srinagar and is very topical. Then I have signed ALL THE BEST, which is a comedy. I will start shooting sometime in April this year. And of course then there's Rituparno Ghosh's SOB CHARITRO KALPONIK, which will release once the dubbing issue is sorted out with the producers.
Apparently you were not happy with the dubbing?
Yes I still am not and I am ready to dub for it. They got someone to dub for it and I am not happy with it. I don't know why the producers want to get it dubbed by someone when I as an artist am ready to offer my services. I hope it gets sorted out soon because it is one good film.
