Arshad Warsi is plain irritated that just around the release of every film of his, his name is dragged into a controversy which is mostly centered on professional rivalry. This has happened yet again in case of his upcoming film SHORTKUT - THE CON IS ON where rumours making the rounds are that not all is well between him and Akshaye Khanna, the other male lead in this Neeraj Vora venture. In a candid chat with us, he clears the air.
Less than 3 weeks to go for the release of SHORTKUT - THE CON IS ON and there is already a controversy around you and Akshaye not being on talking terms?

the two actors. However, just when a film of theirs is round the corner, things start turning sour between them. Someone needs to really explain this to me that how and where does this actually happen. Somehow, this has become a routine of sort before every release of mine.
True. This happened in the past with GOLMAAL RETURNS, DHAN DHANA DHAN GOAL and DHAMAAL as well where it was said that you were unhappy with Ajay Devgan, Tusshar Kapoor, John Abraham etc. There were also murmurs that you were not really sharing good vibes with his co-actors! Case of history repeating itself?
Now can you beat? This could happen in one film or two films but how could this get repeated for each of my films? Just the other day I was reading a news piece to Maria around Akshaye and me being at loggerheads. Actually I have even stopped smiling at such write-ups since it is plain disgusting to have two matured professionals being pitted against each other out of nowhere.
Things had taken an ugly turn during DHAN DHANA DHAN GOAL as well as GOLMAAL RETURNS, isn't it?
True. It was unnecessary to have so much bad blood being created between me and John Abraham during the promotion of DHAN DHANA DHAN DHAN GOAL. We were quite happy working during the film but trouble had started when a publicity picture of the film had John holding more prominence. There was a controversy being created even though I was myself being least bothered.
Are you a soft target because you are mostly seen in multi hero projects?
Possibly yes. And tomorrow it may even become worse if I am in a single hero project. Rumour mongers won't be left with any other choice than to start linking me with every other heroine. I guess I am the only scapegoat who is readily available for them.
But it is public knowledge that for the promotion of SHORTKUT - THE CON IS ON, you and Akshaye were not being seen together on a common platform!
Arrey, it's all sheer nonsense when people write something or react to grapevine just for the sake of it. The fact is that I was severely jet lagged. I had travelled from New York into Macau and had serious issues with the time zone difference. I had immense headache and couldn't make it for press event where Akshaye was present. A story was unnecessarily being made out of it when both Akshaye and I knew that what was really wrong.

How did Anil Kapoor, the film's producer, react to this situation? Apparently, he was quite cool about the entire episode, right?
Exactly, he is a gem of a person and a thorough professional. He understands what goes behind the scenes and how rumours spread. It's just that when I am targeted for no apparent reason time and again, I feel bad. I get troubled whether my audiences and fans would start suspecting me some day as well. I hope that doesn't happen though!
