After John Abraham's role in DOSTANA expectations are soaring high. The Bollywood hunk speaks to our correspondent on the eve of his big release, NEW YORK
NEW YORK is a big film and your first release this year if we leave aside a cameo in Little Zizou. Yes, it is one film everyone is looking forward to, from the actors to the audience, I think everyone is excited. It's a good film and I am equally excited.
You have worked with Kabir Khan in his debut film KABUL EXPRESS, which sank at the box office. Didn't that thought ever cross your mind before you signed NEW YORK? In fact that was the reason I did this film. (Smiles) Kabul Express didn't do well at the box office but Kabir is a brilliant filmmaker. He studies the subject thoroughly and this time too he has done extensive research.

''We (John-Katrina) were extremely comfortable...'' | The story is set post 9/11... But it's not on 9/11. It's about how Asians and Muslims have to undergone a lot of trouble because of this unprecedented event. It's a touching tale of three friends and how one event changes their lives. It has a strong story to tell.
Okay now there have been a lot of things going around particularly with your pairing with Katrina Kaif? Why? (Pause) She is very good co-star and we all have given our best in this film.
But it's known that Bipasha Basu and Katrina Kaif don't even see eye to eye. Did that create problems while on the sets? (Smiles) Initially, we were a bit silent but then again, these things shouldn't come in between work. We were extremely comfortable working with each other. We all are matured people and I think everyone can handle his or her own problems. As professionals I don't allow these things to hamper my work.... No one should NEW YORK was like a very good experience for me because I knew I was part of a good film and nothing more.
Okay... now another thing that has been much of a topic of late... your bare act in NEW YORK. Were you comfortable doing that scene? See it's one of the most touching scenes of the film and I wasn't for a moment uncomfortable. One has to understand the psyche of the character... how the real people would have felt who had to face such things. I was rather very emotionally attached to this scene. It's not only about nudity but the situation in which such a person is nude.
You have been promoting this film despite a fractured leg... (Smiles)... That gives more than a reply. My leg will take another week or so to heal but I was really excited about NEW YORK and so could not sit back and not promote it.

So what's your role in the film? I play Sam, a university student who loves sports, has a great set of friends and who is one of the most popular persons in his university and also among his friends... till 9/11 happens and everything in his life changes and also two of his friends Umar (Neil Nitin Mukesh) and Maya (Katrina). The story takes a turn after the 9/11 incident.
What are your forthcoming projects? There are quite a few.I am shooting for HOOK YA CROOK and AASHAYEIN will release anytime now.
