Practically every release has a new entrant but this aspiring actor is a man with a difference. Every actor has his tryst with destiny and Shiney Ahuja is no exception but what distinguishes this 'shining' star from other performers in his league, is his ability to stay unfazed and unperturbed by the 24 hour on-the-run schedules and the controversies surrounding him. So here's the very exhilarating actor himself...
Who thought of your unconventional name?
My father. As he says, when he first looked at me, he felt that while his name was Suraj, the real 'shine' came into his life with me! While several folks told me to change my name to a more conventional one, my emotional bond with this name turned out to be stronger.
What is that one thing according to you that sells in Bollywood?
Controversy for the sake of controversy!
Is it very difficult for an actor (coming from a non filmy background) to carve a niche for himself?
Yes. A star kid comes with many benefits. One, he has an access to the best production houses, scripts, co-stars and guidance. Two, the road is not unknown, the doors are not locked and the journey therefore is a lot easier. However, if one has the talent, the right personality, the attitude and the grit and determination to succeed, nothing can stop him from realizing his dreams. Though the road to stardom is challenging, it is rewarding. Bollywood's history is dotted with several such amazing stories of success which is why this industry is magical.
Do you really consider Sudhir Mishra as your God father?
This is the industry that has given me the opportunity to live my dreams, to do what I do best - act. It's an industry that has built several lives, it tests you in every way, your courage, your value systems, and your faith while tempting you with the heights of success that no other industry can possibly match. I love and look up to this industry for everything it stands for and for everything it has to offer. My first step into Bollywood was through Sudhir and today I look up to him for guidance, whenever I feel the need. A gifted director, an objective human being, a realist and a survivor...I could not have asked for a better friend and mentor.

Tell us something about your childhood and college days?
Childhood and college days were the proverbial best days of my life. I recall several stories of escaping with my dad's car, getting the grades to get my first bike from my dad and girlfriend(s) ofcourse.
Where were you born and brought up?
I was born in Dehradun. Since my dad was in the Army, I would say I was brought up almost all over the country. The longest period was in Delhi. So I guess, you can say I was brought up in Delhi.
How was it like working with a female director for the first time in ZINDAGGI ROCKS?
I cannot comment on the film at this point. However, Tanuja has been a pleasure to work with. I don't know if it typically is the case with female directors, but she had the knack of creating a very congenial and warm working atmosphere. We literally felt like family where each member was treated with respect and made to feel special. Patience, the willingness to listen and constant encouragement to her actors are some of Tanuja's most outstanding traits as a director.
What about your other forthcoming films?
Besides ZINDAGGI ROCKS, I am currently working on Mahesh Bhatt's film WOH LAMHE directed by Mohit Suri. I am also doing Sudhir Mishra's BAHUT NIKLE MERE ARMAAN. I have also done a special appearance in FANAA, there were two simple reasons for this. First, it was a Yash Raj Film and secondly, when Kunal Kohli narrated the script to me, he said my name was Suraj and that I was a Major in the Indian Army posted in Kashmir. That is my dad. I requested him to change the last name to 'Ahuja' which he did and I immediately accepted the offer. Other than this, I am currently involved in an ongoing discussion for four more projects.
What provokes you to sign a film?
It is a character driven script, good director and a good story that excites me the most which if produced by a big banner, increases its chances of being a success in a big way.
Any regrets in life?
None!
Any advice to new comers?
I don't know if I know enough and I don't know if there are any rules. However, I do know that the basic ingredients of success... Talent, personality, patience and perseverance. And no one can set rules for your success because it is ultimately your journey.
Lastly any message for your fans?
Yes, I want to thank all of my fans for believing in me and my work. You inspire me to do my best everytime I work. I will try my best to not let you down!
