Asian music television major Channel V has launched a mega hunt to find the epic, ephemeral Indian beauty.
Called Get Gorgeous, the model hunt will span six cities in their search for four perfect faces and figures that will kick-start the country's minuscule, though increasingly visible, modelling industry.
"We always hear that Indian women are so beautiful, everyone who comes to India says so, and yet we don't really have a position in the global modelling industry," said Amar K. Deb, head honcho of Channel V.
The show will be presented by new Channel V veejay Sarah Jane.
Deb announced the hunt here Wednesday with Sushma Puri, director and CEO of Elite Model Management (India). Elite is Channel V's partner in the venture.
Channel V will organise six parties at six top discotheque-pubs in Delhi, Kolkata, Pune, Bangalore, Mumbai and Chennai to choose the girls. Anyone can fill a form and send in photographs to apply.
The first Get Gorgeous party is at Delhi's The Park hotel on Thursday.
The process of selection, grooming and presenting the winners as the new faces of Indian modelling will be broadcast on Channel V in the 'glam-reality' format.
The channel first struck gold with this format a couple of years ago when it introduced Popstars, choosing a group of talented young singers from contests held across the country and then grooming them into a band -- every step broadcast on TV.
Popstars has been an enormous success and even spawned two hit bands in successive years, Viva and Asma.
"We want to see the same sort of success with Get Gorgeous," said Deb.
The chosen four will participate in a wider international model hunt organised by Elite later this year, said Puri.
"They would get an opportunity to fight it out with the best new modelling talents from across the world. We have faith in the Indian beauty," she said.
