Festival of K.L. Saigal's films in Delhi

In a tribute to legendary singer-actor Kundan Lal Saigal, the Directorate of Film Festivals and the National Film Archives of India launched a festival of his films here Wednesday.

The festival commemorates the birth centenary of Saigal, who was born in Jammu in 1904.

The festival started with the screening at the Siri Fort Auditorium here of the classic "Tansen" (1943) directed by Jayant Desai.

Other films that will be screened are : "Chandidas" (1934), "Devdas" (1935), "President" (1937), "Street Singer" (1938), "Lagan" (1941) and "Parwana" (1947).

Saigal, who became a cult figure in the 1930s after portraying the titular character in "Devdas", is today remembered as Indian cinema's first superstar.
