The only Indian entry at the 58th Edinburgh International Film Festival this year is the Sudhir Mishra-directed political thriller "Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi".

The film, described by veteran Hollywood actress Vanessa Redgrave as "a master piece" when screened at the Los Angeles Festival, has been made by Pritish Nandy Communications.

"Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi", which has created a stir in the international festival circuit, is being screened on Aug 20, 21 and 27 at the Edinburgh Festival. It received critical acclaim at the Berlin International Film Festival and the Indian Film Festival at Los Angeles earlier this year.

Set against the backdrop of immense political turmoil in India from the late sixties to the late seventies, often described as the Indira Gandhi years, it is a love story with Kay Kay Menon and debutants Chitrangda Singh and Shiney Ahuja playing the lead roles.

The film's music is already a huge hit. The music, scored by Shantanu Moitra, and released by Virgin Records, has notched four-star reviews.

The movie has been hailed by Shekhar Kapoor as: "The most significant and real film that I have seen recently and without doubt, the most important film to come out of India in a long, long time".

Filmmaker Ashutosh Gowarikar has heralded it as "Indian cinema's first great political epic".

The Edinburgh International Film Festival, which focuses on new cinema and talent, attracts over 1,000 delegates from Europe, UK and North America.
