Mahesh Manjrekar's first monologue film
By Manisha Deshpande
Times are a changing and both filmmakers and the audiences are now gearing up for newer formats in filmmaking. Take the case of Mahesh Manjrekar who is ready with his monologue film, STRUGGLER. The film made in the form of a one-act play tells the trials and tribulations of a struggler who wishes to make it big and comes to Mumbai in search of his dreams.
Apparently Manjrekar had been wanting to explore the format for a long time and came across an interesting script, written by famous Marathi playwright, Makarand Anaspure of JAO BAI JORAT fame. "He liked the script at first instance and decided to make it into a monologue film. Fortunately for him producer Sheel Kumar who loves to experiment with subjects also liked the subject and decided to produce it for him," says Atul Kale, Manjrekar's chief assistant.
The only hitch for Manjrekar is the fact that the film is currently stuck up in censors with the censors suggesting a few cuts and Manjrekar refusing to relent to those cuts. "There is nothing controversial about it and we are expecting the film to get an early clearance," says Kale.
STRUGGLER is being lined for an early 2005 release.
