Actress Kunika's karmic connection

By Viral Bhayani, IANS

TV and film actress Kunika is all set to produce a film on reincarnation that will be shot in the US and India.

"Karmic Konnection" is a "purely Hindi commercial film", Kunika told IANS. It will be directed by Deepak Tijori.

Kunika met Pune-based scriptwriter Sujata Sabnis and was deeply inspired by the story. Some non-resident Indians will finance the film. Her venture will begin this June and will be shot in San Francisco, Chicago and India.

Bollywood producers usually abstain from shooting in the US nowadays as it is very difficult to obtain visas. But not so for Kunika.

"Being an air force officer's daughter I have been taught that one should follow and respect the rules of the country. I don't see why they won't allow a genuine producer as we have no intention to transport people there with some other intention," she replies.

"We are planning to cast very well-known stars in the film but if it is delayed too much then we will think of casting new stars. I'm not acting in this film," she says.

So does she believe in reincarnation herself?

"In my own life I have seen relationships come my way. I always believe that people come into your life for either reason or season. The reason is to teach you a lesson that you have not learnt while the season is just to add a breath of fresh air and leave sweet memories," says Kunika.

She earlier produced the TV serial "Strivers and Achievers". Anchored by Kunika herself, it celebrated the struggle and achievements of people with physical-mental-situational handicaps.

"I feel so satisfied about doing that series. I discovered that people suffering from a terminal disease were more positive and had more resolve and inner strength to combat life than others," says Kunika.

Sadly the show did not last too long.

"I believe there is little place for the non-'saas-bahu' (mother-in-law-daughter-in-law) type of serials in India. Even the corporates don't support such serials.

"I don't mind the debts, as I know I will get the returns from some other projects, so really no regrets," she remarks.

She started her career in 1987 with TV series "Kashmakash".

She has acted in more then 75 films such as "Mujrim", "Beta", "Khiladi", "Gumrah", "Thanedar", "Heer Ranjha", "Bewafa Se Wafa", "Mohra", "Maharaja", "Pyarr Kiya To Darna Kya", "Qila", "Wajood", "Hum Saath Saath Hain" and "Ek Rishta".

"I'm still on with films and will act in other films even though I have turned producer," she says.

Kunika has plans in the music industry too. She earlier released a pop album called "Lakhon Mein Ek" for Times Music.

"I was against doing a remix album but I guess I cannot do without them. I will be doing a remix album but minus the vulgarity," she says.
