Newcomers will try and keep the flames of love burning

By Priyanka Khanna, IANS

While established stars will have no time for good old love stories, some newcomers will try and keep the flames of love burning.

Newcomers like Arjun Rampal, John Abraham, Karan Nath and Shahid Kapur will take over as poster boys for teenyboppers albeit with a difference.

The love stories expected to go on the marquees in the year ahead will be closer to reality.

Writer Javed Akhtar, who has scripted some of Bollywood's most enchanting films, says one can expect more mature love stories from the industry.

Bollywood has invariably depicted love as a fantasy set on the college campus but a mature love story is dignified and reasonable, and yet retains emotions, says Akhtar while citing the Dilip Kumar, Raj Kapoor and Nargis-starrer "Andaz" as his example of a "really mature love story".

Fardeen Khan and Shahid Kapur will both be obsessed with Kareena Kapoor in Ken Ghosh's next film for Tips.

Shahid will be seen again in Anant Mahadevan's just-launched love flick "Prem Kahani" that marks Soha Ali Khan Pataudi's debut.

But will school and college students, who form a sizable chunk of the city audience, be able to relate to love stories that go beyond the feel-good routine?

"At such an age, one has different priorities in life. Still, students do appreciate perspectives different from their own," feels actor Manoj Bajpai.

Love may still triumph on the box-office when Bobby Deol trailed by Ajay Devgan, Suniel Shetty and Sanjay Dutt, tangles with Tanisha in "Tango Charlie", then takes on Arjun Rampal to win over Amisha Patel in "Hum Ko Tumse Pyar Hai".

In its 57th year, Rajshri presents its 50th film, "Uff Kya Jadoo Mohabbat Hai", a story of unconditional love and unbound friendship.

Introducing two fresh-faced youngsters, Sammir and Pooja Kanwal, the film in the mould of Sooraj Barjatya's debut film, "Maine Pyar Kiya", is all set to bring a whiff of virginal romance into the theatres.

Besides, the curtains will also go up for Akbar Khan's Rs.500 million Taj Mahal saga. Love may conquer all if any one of these few love stories makes it bigger than the war and cop sagas.
